Ran across this interesting novel on Librivox by Richard Jefferies (1848-1887)
LibriVox

Although referred to as Post-Apocalyptic fiction, I found it pretty easy to imagine this writer was exposed to a major reset.
The first part just deals with the aftermath of a once civilized country running wild as observed by a astute naturalist who rather reminds me of Humboldt with his vivid descriptions of the landscapes.
The second half tells the story of a dissatisfied noble who strikes out in his homemade canoe to prove himself in a brutal world ruled by petty tyrants and thieves. We learn that London has now become a fetid swamp and all the ancient the cities uninhabitable because of a sickness in the soil that extends for miles into the country side. The character does not know, or care, what happened to the Ancients, he only knows they were destroyed in a twinkling, leaving behind all their treasures, many of which remain undisturbed because the cities are too dangerous.
I found the tale quite enjoyable and was disappointed when it ended, I wanted to know what happened next!
