Not much to say about star-forts in general. Just want to say that this little town (6.284 citizens) is almost completely sorrounded by a military area on both sides of River Adda (Pizzighettone - Wikipedia). You can see the barracks with the vegetation growing up all around them.

I'm a bit confused, that its saying Gera, thats also a town in Thuringia, germany, could mean nothing though.
But anyway its really amazing how many these star forts are in plain sight, but you don't even see them.
For example in Thuriniga, we have the "Zitadelle Petersburg", and i only most recently got to finally grasp that its actually a star fort: 😑

There's plenty of Germanic place names "Italianized" in North Italy, even though no one talks about it. Bergamo (Bèrghem in local dialect) is the easiest (stronghold on the hill? You can tell me better) but I bet there are many others. They say it was founded by some Gaulish tribe and it's ok but the name says it all. And also Slavic names, by the way.

Yes it means home or settlement on a mountain/hill, but not necessarily stronghold. This word is connected to "Heimat"

Bergamo's bastions and glacis walls are amazing.

I've noticed that in many of these star-forts (Bergamo included) there are gardens with rare and exotic plants if compared to those pertaining to the natural climate of the region.
Yes they seem to be exotic garden cities.

Anther thing is that entrance immediately makes me think of the Piranesi prisons pics....
