I was researching the assassination of James Garfield and came upon this beauty, who left us too quickly, demolished at the age of 34. Construction started in 1872 and it was completed in 1874. It was built in a Victorian Gothic style, made with red brick and black mortar. The building was 55 feet tall, with a 100 foot clocktower on the North corner. It was built close to the present day mall in D.C. Garfield was assassinated by Charles Guiteau in the lobby of the station and apparently that event haunted it and led to its demolition. There's not too many pictures left of it, but the one's we do have speak for themselves. Check out the memorial marker for Garfield.

The Memorial Marker at least shows the 1871 change in government to " United States", verse the original Constitutional Government " The United States of America"

Can or did anyone see a electrical wire going down to the streetcar? I found the horses headed to the right.

I just added a better picture of the railcar, you can the electrical wire above it pretty clearly. The Memorial Marker is a memorial for James Garfield, he was assassinated on July 2nd, 1881. There looks to be some other technology on top of the station too. It's visible in the second photo.
