This song has so many talking points, both from the lyrics and the video both posted below. What is especially interesting, to me at least, is his denial that the lyrics have any meaning as he tells us in the 2nd video. Apparently these were 'dummy lyrics', random nonsense written until he had time to write proper lyrics but then everyone liked the nonsense lyrics so they kept them. Alrighty then...... Just the first two lines clearly refer to the Masonic twin towers, if these lyrics are random nonsense then I'm going to get a pet monkey and a typewriter, I should have a literary masterpiece within a week! In my opinion someone has spooked him over this, he is usually very reluctant to even discuss the subject. Aran is a group of 3 small islands off the west coast of Ireland, known for their ancient sites. Perhaps the old man of Aran was an ancient lighthouse? The verse in bold I think is interesting for this forum, especially the way he sings the line as 'To keep from burning His-story'. I would love to know what other think about this song and video.

Explanation of lyrics
Historic Inis Mor lighthouse and signal tower to become tea room - Aran Isles Aran lighthouse
I got two strong arms
Blessings of Babylon
Time to carry on and try
For sins and false alarms
So to America the brave
Wise men save
Near a tree by a river
There's a hole in the ground
Where an old man of Aran
Goes around and around
And his mind is a beacon
In the veil of the night
For a strange kind of fashion
There's a wrong and a right
But he'll never, never fight over you
I got plans for us
Nights in the scullery
And days instead of me
I only know what to discuss
Oh, for anything but light
Wise men fighting over you
It's not me you see
Pieces of valentine
And just a song of mine
To keep from burning history
Seasons of gasoline and gold
Wise men fold
Near a tree by a river
There's a hole in the ground
Where an old man of Aran
Goes around and around
And his mind is a beacon
In the veil of the night
For a strange kind of fashion
There's a wrong and a right
But he'll never, never fight over you
I got time to kill
Sly looks in corridors
Without a plan of yours
A blackbird sings on bluebird hill
Thanks to the calling of the wild
Wise men's child
Near a tree by a river
There's a hole in the ground
Where an old man of Aran
Goes around and around
And his mind is a beacon
In the veil of the night
For a strange kind of fashion
There's a wrong and a right
But he'll never, never fight
Near a tree by a river
There's a hole in the ground
Where an old man of Aran
Goes around and around
And his mind is a beacon
In the veil of the night
For a strange kind of fashion
There's a wrong and a right
But he'll never, never fight over you
No he'll never, never fight over you
