Placing this into the general subforum, for I do not know which way the discussion might go. Meaning, the thread might get moved later.

Below we have two c. 1906 images of the Williamsburg Bridge Plaza in Brooklyn, New York.

Brooklyn population:
  • 1900: 1,166,582 people
  • 1910: 1,610,487 people
Where are the cars?

KD: My question will pertain to taxis, and privately owned vehicles. Where do you think those were hiding? I am not even talking about their electric taxis:
I am referring to anything resembling a car. Plausibility aside, how probable are the above two photographs? Are we really looking at 1906 there?
  • Is this our timeline 1906, or someone else's?

Below are some ads from the below linked 1906 publication, containing hundreds of those ads. It also suggests that we should see consistent physical proof of cars being all over the place. Where is that proof in photographs?

Anyways, where do you think their 1905-06 cars were hiding at in the above Brooklyn photographs? And may be in other NYC 1905-06 photographs as well...

Are the other vehicles hiding, or are the 2 photos of a specific streetcar terminus? Ie, were cars prohibited from that spot?

I think cars should have been allowed anywhere horse buggies were. What else would they have everything covered in concrete for? Non-existent pedestrians?

Tire removed in 30 seconds. Replaced in same time. How cool is that for 1906?

There is a famous film made of Market Street in San Francisco in 1906, just one week before the big Earthquake and Fire.
If you look carefully, there are only a handful of cars, and they are purposefully used over and over weaving in and out amongst the horse drawn wagons and the streetcars. I can only assume that there weren’t many cars yet in use them even in a rich city like SF.

Did paved streets cause a larger number of cars, or a larger number of cars cause the streets to get paved?

Even a terminus would have more car trafic around Imo. The streets are very clean...
