My wife is reading the Fencing Master by Alexandre Dumas. Apparently, it contains some info on one of the Saint Petersburg floods of the 19th century.

Considering that the book was first published between 1840-42, we could be talking about the Siant Petersburg flood of 1824.
KD: Figured this could be interesting for some...

Pushkin's poem about the 1824 flood: Poetry Lovers' Page - Aleksandr Pushkin: The Bronze Horseman

I don't have time to post on whole poem but this section at the beginning alludes to sh thread about St. P. Being built on the bones of the Finns: "
City of Peter, just you shine
And stand unshakable as Russia!
May make a peace with beauty, thine,
The conquered nature’s casual rushes;
And let the Finnish waves forget
Their ancient bondages and malice
And not disturb with their hate senseless
The endless sleep of Peter, great
!"

Quick to mention Alexandre Dumas’s connect to Haiti. Here’s a link of on his father who was born in Haiti... Thomas-Alexandre Dumas - Wikipedia.

What the heck was going on back then with so many educated former “slaves”. Not trying to derail but I couldn’t resist because of the connection to Haiti.
