After someone reads a lot of threads on this website, he hits a dead-end of sorts. There is no further information to consume, everything is adjacent, even on youtube.
He may share some new piece of the puzzle, but there is no breakthrough.
I want to suggest a new format to use the information accumulated in this website (and youtube)
An interactive world map application (e.g. Google Maps) which contains exclusively content related to stolenhistory, yet the user explores it dynamically.
Points of interest are filled by users.
Example Use-Cases
However, instead of just "bootleg google maps but with some extra features", it has important things like:
On the right side of the screen, there is a vertical panel with options like "Starforts", "Craters", "World Trees", "Melted Cities" etc
So by clicking that, there is a list of these, and you can press "Next" and it travels you there. Of course, these locations are registered by users (ofc with some moderation for approval)
And the images of all locations should be fetched by google maps or openstreetmaps or sth, so it's not exclusively an interactive database, but has as much usage as google maps, but with this kind of information added on top.
Projection of the map shouldn't be global (google earth lol) but rectangular or circular (north pole at center)
And for any location clicked, there should be a choice to open that in google maps or openstreetmap.
Locations vs Areas
As for areas instead of locations (a polygon instead of a point) like Pompeii or San Fransisco or the american urban fires? I suggest the popups to be manually triggered on entering a polygon of an area, instead of a point hovering. So for example, there is a polygon covering san fransisco which if you press X button (and your cursor has some color), opens a new tab on related stolenhistory articles.
A related solution could be a feature called "Tours" which are made by moderators, where a topic is central and goes around many areas highlighted with polygons, e.g. "American Urban Fires" and highlights all the polygons of the cities with articles (e.g. San Fransisco, Chicago etc)
The Benefits
The result of such an application would be making this information more digestible for users unfamiliar with tartaria, mudflood etc etc
It would also link many topics together. And users can fill it, which is the easiest way for users to contribute.
The cost however is hard. It requires 1~2 programmers working for like 2~3 months (assuming they are experienced with geospatial APIs)
So if an autistic programmer discovers these topics and is hyped, he can take this on. Otherwise, we are talking about a lot of money to hire programmer(s).
But assuming the money is there, this is a good suggestion to visualize much information of this website.
Of course, this information excludes topics like pocket watches, inventions, individuals etc
