From here Witsen - image list

The caption under the engraving this screenshot part of reads;
"Mongolian Nun Mongolian Lama or Priest."
If the caption is accurate then are the pair of Mongolians in another part of Tartary or were there really palm trees in Mongolia once upon a time (1692) or did Mongolia shrink over time and once it had sub tropical lands within it?

KD you will have to shift this to the Tartary forum as the writing in the Lama's hand is clearly Manchu Tartary.

Yes, again with the really tall hats worn by people of importance.

I was so wrong about John Wayne inventing the cowboy hat...

The weather in Mongolia may indeed have been more tropical.
Mother Earth changes climates faster than we think or are taught.
I have to wonder if the man on the right is concealing a Colt 45 Peacemaker or a Remington 44 revolver?
