This is precisely the sentiment Joni Mitchell was warning us about...

I wonder how much damage this area saw during both World Wars 1 and 2? The beauty, dare say "magic", I feel in the 1910 photo, is missing in the 2018 "ugly buildings" photo.

Ok I admit it- I don't what you are referring to _ I know who she is, of course, but please tell me what she said. :)
This makes me sick to my stomach and gives me the same depressing hopelessness I feel when I have to go to Walmart and almost every person I see there looks terribly unhealthy, and, I am not being mean, not very smart with their shopping carts filled with soda and all kinds of fake food.

:) Specifically she sang:

Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got 'til its gone. They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

The iron and bridge supports lasted over 100 years but all those huge buildings just had to come down...what a shame.

Does anyone have any info about the area where it was pictured? It looks like a U bahn track but Berlin being so big I have no idea where it is. I live in Berlin and would love to pass by to take some pics :)

UPDATE: found an article about it, I'll pass by over the weekend to take some pics of the Obelisk and the fountain, maybe I get some details.

When Nollendorfplatz was Berlin's loveliest U-Bahn station

Absolute seismic shift. Why the hell would any sane person destroy that beauty and replace it with that horror?
If this doesn't prick ears up nothing will. There must have been some sinister reason for destroying those buildings.
Wow! :rolleyes::oops:

I have a hard time believing the same people that put that plaque up in 1904 would start a two front war ten years later over some Serbian.

That U infront Bahn stands for Undergroundtrain, but that before right and correct spell was "Hochbahn", that is translated Hightrain, or Highlane.

exactly the point ... why destroy something so magnificent and beautiful ... 1904 on the arch with the figure ... and an obelisk too ...

looks like they reworked the bridge as the rivets seem to be missing ...

were you able to get some photos ...

Not quite. She knows paradise when she sees it.
BIG YELLOW TAXI (1970)

I wrote “Big Yellow Taxi” on my first trip to Hawaii. I took a taxi to the hotel and when I woke up the next morning, I threw back the curtains and saw these beautiful green mountains in the distance. Then, I looked down and there was a parking lot as far as the eye could see, and it broke my heart . . . this blight on paradise. That’s when I sat down and wrote the song. When it first came out, it was a regional hit in Hawaii because people there realized their paradise was being chewed up. It took 20 years for that song to sink in to people most other places in the country. That is a powerful little song because there have been cases in a couple of cities of parking lots being torn up and turned into parks because of it.

The problem with this thread is that it is heading towards Agenda 21 as a solution. The oldest trick in the communist book is to make the little snooks think they are responsible. It's you who caused this, it's you whom created global warming, it's your fault.

The Germans lost that beauty to the US 8th Air Force and British Bomber Command, and they lost it because they adopted a "World View" proposed by Adolf Hitler. Well ya got the same "World View" going on right now within the minds of many others today because of this urban blight, but are those ideas of the elites under Agenda 21 going to be any less destructive, and the answer is no. The consequence for humans will be equally as bad as 1,000 plane bomber raids and mass firebombing. Might as well just set up suicide booths as an alternative.

The thing that get's me, and I know some don't share this idea, but there's a whole galaxy out there and we are just this teeny tiny speck of dirt in the whole of it, and that's just in our own galaxy and yet what are we focusing in on once more? That's right, another "World View." We need a little bigger view and then maybe these things won't happen so easily. Like who cares what the idiots on Earth are doing now if I can just far enough away from them. I just bet that if we were able to put 100 or 1,000 people on every inhabitable planet or moon that there wouldn't even be enough of us to populate them all.
