Electric motors use carbon brushes.



Dry cell batteries use carbon rods.



As do arc lamps.



I would suppose solar is a name branding for confer their arc lamp filament was very bright.
Like the Eveready Sunshine carbon arc lamp.





These things were bright enough to get a tan. I wonder why we have no indoor photographs.
