Just learned anout Wieliczka, and it definitely appears worthy of our closer examination. It is, of course, a UNESCO Heritage site.

Here's a little bit about it: Wieliczka Salt Mine - Wikipedia

From Neolithic times, sodium chloride (table salt) was produced there from the upwelling brine. The Wieliczka salt mine, excavated from the 13th century, produced table salt continuously until 2007, as one of the world's oldest operating salt mines. Throughout its history, the royal salt mine was operated by the Żupy Krakowskie (Kraków Salt Mines) company.

Due to falling salt prices and mine flooding, commercial salt mining was discontinued in 1996.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is now an official Polish Historic Monument (Pomnik Historii). Its attractions include the shafts and labyrinthine passageways, displays of historic salt-mining technology, an underground lake, four chapels and numerous statues carved by miners out of the rock salt, and more recent sculptures by contemporary artists.

The Wieliczka Salt Mine reaches a depth of 327 meters, and extends via horizontal passages and chambers for over 287 kilometers (178 miles). The rock salt is naturally of varying shades of grey, resembling unpolished granite rather than the white crystalline substance that might be expected.

Here are some pictures from down there.

Let me know your thoughts!!! Definitely interesting when we consider salinity in relation to alternative energy sources!

There is "K" missing in thread name.

During last years it was visited by many foreign heads of states, prime ministerse etc from country like Korea or Japan(?). Some people are telling that it's being prepared for hideout/shelter in the next reset.

Interesting.
Sea salt usually contains a mixture of salts (which usually resembles the percentage of minerals in the human body). Perhaps a statement from an ignorant jounalist. About 700km to the west, there are similar salt mining facilities in the Hartz mountain region in Germany. The raw salt there is as greyish as in Wieliczka.

A minor comment to the mammoth horn photo:
In the background, one can see some archery equipment, probably claimed to be neolithic. The arrows are fresh replica, I don't even need a close-up to see this. Many archers make such as a hobby, you can find dozens of YT videos where people hunt actually with such equipment.

1844 Meyer print of the mine- these people look like tourists, not miners, and this structure looks like a building, not a mine. Look at the low pyramids/altars on second floor.

This is supposedly Copernicus-looks more like a giantess placing the moon in the sky, to me.

Do we know how many levels it has? The below pic is from the OP linked wiki article. Wondering what those story floors were made out of.

This interior lake makes a whole lot of sense.

I actually visited here a couple of months ago when I was in Krakow. Utterly massive complex, hard to comprehend how much 287km of tunnels really is. Interestingly, statuettes of gnomes and dragons were a recurring theme during the tour.

That is very interesting, given that most pictures focus on the Christian iconography! Have any pictures from your trip?
