I visited Tennessee Virtual Library yesterday and went through several old maps there related to Chattanooga; I was originally impressed by the maps from Beautifully detailed map of Nashville, TN in 1888, the folks have done a marvelous job of enhancing the old maps that are somewhat blurry etc., and browsing through the downloaded maps I caught a "Star Fortress" in the maps ... I then compared the Star Fortress in the map downloaded from the virtual library and the one from KNOWOL and this is presented in the following photos / thumbnails ... the Star Fortress is Item #16 on both maps ... faded and fuzzy photos are from the virtual library map ... the sharper more brighter photos are from KNOWOL map ...
I also saw another item that caught my attention like an "Obelisk" inside a house compound on the KNOWOL map and I compared the area on the map to the same area on the virtual library map ... the comparison is shown in the following photos ... the obelisk is missing and / or is unclear in the virtual library map ... having observed the "missing" Obelisk my decision then became clearer to use the map from the virtual library because the enhanced and sharper map even though it has breathtaking detail could have been created from the fuzzy original from the virtual librry and I may be better off sharpening the images using GIMP software ...
It turns out that the Star Fortress was called "Fort Wood" ... I did a bit of reading up on the internet on the following links ... fort wood chattanooga - Google Search ... Historic Planning & Zoning ... Fort Wood (3) - FortWiki Historic U.S. and Canadian Forts ... Federal Military Occupation of Chattanooga and vicinity ... https://archive.is/20130415001122/h.../20652/Twelve_Tribes_Community_in_Chattanooga ... the Wikipedia article only talks about the Fort Wood Historic District ... while the fortwiki website had good information and links ... "notesfromtheninthcircle" blog ... turns out that Fort Wood was known as Fort Creighton ... the maps from "notesfromtheninthcircle" blog revealed something interesting ... the entire city of Chattanooga looked like a "Star City" ... the following photos / thumbnails are from the above links ... I also went to Google Maps to see what exists today ... a branch campus of University of Tennessee is in the surrounding area and the Star Fortress is gone ... I also explored the other links in the Wikipedia article to see what is there presently ... the following screensnips show that ... a fun part was visiting the City of Chattanooga Historical Zoning information website ...
This is what emerged for me in going through the "notesfromtheninthcircle" blog ... the following photo shows a Star City with several Star Fortresses ... and I also compared the photo from the "notesfromtheninthcircle" blog with an undated map of Chattanooga which I found on the virtual archive only to realize that there was another "Fortsy" structure past the Fort Creighton ... the three armed structure to the right top of Fort Creighton and touching the dark lines in the middle photo ...

To me personally this journey was filled with a valuable clue to understanding the cities in USA especially the south ... I needed to look for "Star City" layouts beyond the individual "Star Forts" ... another item that highlighted itself was this ... one of the historical districts is called "Saint Elmo" ... only thing I have read about is Nikola Tesla and his declaring that he had recreated St. Elmos Fire which burned Nitrogen ... so viewing old cities as Star Cities and looking for clues within the current day naming of historical areas opened up a new way to digest information for me ...
