Actually, even at solidly upper-middle class gatherings here, in one of the great techno-centers of of the world, Seattle, people, “respectable people” who do respectable things like work as doctors and IT professionals, will talk without shame about UFOs and aliens with tremendous enthusiasm. (They also like to talk about mysterious things like the pyramids-- i.e., far away-- tremble on cue-- “mysterious” places where they will or have visited. You know, “bucket lists.") But, and I know this from experience (did I write this already?), try to introduce some ideas gleaned from these erudite pages, and you will be escorted to the very edge of the party. Quickly. They'll be a bunch of surprised people if they saw UFOs ... Go talk to your typical countrymen on the street....
One good thing about such people is they often own Steinway and Sons grand pianos. Playing Thelonious Monk has served to keep me sane and marginally acceptable.
