You know, it really is amazing how much stuff gets built during wars, when one would assume that the majority of a nation's funding would be going towards the actual war, with little left over for beautiful architecture. At most, one would expect the very simplest of structures to be erected.

Only if you believe wars are what history tells us they are.

Thanx bro, this is a good site also. Hard to find one nowadays, most so-called truth sites block you as soon as you post something real. Godlike Productions is the worst. FB went down hill fast during the Rona censorship drive, I had 5 profiles all on 30 day bans which prompted me to start my It's All Fake project, needed a place nobody could kick me off of. Had to get a Wage-Slave job, cuts into my real work so I haven't been able to publish anything new the last few days, just finished up an epic thread on Paris and added a new segment on the Civil War. The French Revolution and the Civil War are fractal allegories for the Reset. Coney Island is a permanent World Fair facsimile, a mini NWO installation.they had a fireworks display set to a script of some 'natural' disaster like the Johnstown Flood or proxy battle, usually either the French Revolution or Civil War. I just found a thing called the cyclorama last night, you're seen the pavilions on the World Fair circuit, the circular building with the 5 story 360 degree painting that rotates, the precursor to film, the moving pictures, the movies. Again, just like the fireworks display the narrative is war themed and a few religion cults... The crucifixion of Jesus and all. The cyclorama is a badass chapter, hopefully I can finish this week. On top of putting out new material just keeping on top of updating my older posts is a fuckin task. This one is my fav and has no direction, just a general survey that got so big now it has its own website.

FWIW: Danville State Hospital (in Pennsylvania) was built with an extensive underground tunnel system connecting the various buildings. Beside facilitating delivery of meals from the (underground) kitchen to the various buildings while they were still warm they made (still make) travel between buildings easy in inclement weather with no need for winter/raincoats.

Yeah, this actually gives me an explanatory theory: maybe the taxpayers paid for stone but ended up getting brick covered by glazed tile.

A mundane explanation for the strangely ornate asylums and poorhouses, etc:

What if they are pork projects designed to make cronies lots of money? That is, what if the politicians or project directors made these buildings so ornate in order to inflate building time and cost, enriching their contractor friends (or possibly family members)? That would explain why they were designed by random soldiers (etc) instead of traditional architectural firms. The soldier (or whoever) was in the know, possibly a friend or relative of someone in power. It's like when governments give huge building or weapons contracts to tiny companies no one has ever heard of (one example being the $300,000,000 contract for restoring power to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico in 2017 being given to the newly-formed Montana company Whitefish Energy).

That could also explain the random hodge-podge of who the inmates were (at first genuine crazy people, then the poor or unwed mothers, then they would admit people for practically any reason) and why the numbers grew. The corrupt officials were trying to cram them full of bodies to justify the construction of new facilities to start the whole cycle over again. "Our humongous overpriced facility is filled 1000% over capacity, quick taxpayer - fund a new project!"

Isn't that viewing our long dead ancestors through today's tax jaded eyes? Even in the 1980's there was quite a bit of taxpayer pushback every time a sports team owner wanted a new multi-million dollar stadium built... ( so he could put his corporate logo on it! ) The PR campaigns they launched were almost as expensive as the projects themselves. Now of course no one bats an eye at $1bil price tag ( to replace a stadium barely 20 years old? )

Up until the Housing Boom of the early 2000's, municipal bond underwriting had to make SENSE! Voters actually weighed the millage rates and calculated how long it'd take to pay these monstrosities ( bridges, tunnels, light rail etc. ) off. Older voters knew how to gauge a town or county's ability to service debt load. Certainly our forefathers in the 1800's, barely eking out a living would have balked.

Given how much manual labor would've been involved in constructing Weston, I'm having difficulty imagining there'd have been much room to pad the books. In contrast, drive by the latest hi-rise or casino and there's surprisingly few actual laborers. However, the promise and lure of jobs back then may have helped tip the scales. Always does! But we'll have to learn a great deal more about [how] this behemoth was financed. This one has def piqued my interest!

It's just viewing people of earlier eras as having the same tendencies we see today. Politics has always had an attraction for the greedy and corrupt. Also, if that place was built when a war was going on then there may have been limited oversight (attention was elsewhere, officials may have been called to work on other things) - a perfect opportunity to help yourself to some coffers.

There's nothing wrong with viewing people in the past with cynicism and/or skepticism.

And like I said, if the taxpayers thought they were paying for stone and it checked out on paper, then they may have agreed to it. Then they just install brick and cover it with something stone-seeming (or whatever), then publish some articles about how it has more stone than Famous Stone Building. It would be pretty simple.

Really good observations on the pork barrel politics of the building/rebuilding of America. That would be why so many of them were Government buildings. That's who had the gold to pay for construction/reconstruction expenses. The Masonic Halls could have money made off them two ways, the contract to "build" the building and the labor put into doing the reconstruction.

A funny thing happened when I looked at the Asylum on Google Earth. I like to get the over view first and the go to the street level view (the stick figure button). You then have the choice to click on the blue line for the standard google camera car views. Or you can click on blue circles and see 360° images that individuals were kind enough to shoot and post while they were there.

I started hitting the dots to look closer at the building. All the spots I was interested in looking at all ended up being shot by the same person. And most of them focused on the kinds of things we look for in pictures - dark holes, windows and doors that can't be explained, elevation changes, etc. I'm pretty sure he was there researching for a blog or something. My "eyes to see" recognised the trail of his "eyes to see."

Just a comment about the pyramid shaped “ lime ovens”. They don’t seem very blackened by fire. I follow Jon Levi. He has proposed that this type of structure may have functioned as a battery that would produce power. It’s an interesting idea.
