This is the Codex Argenteus, or Silver Bible. Created more than 1,500 years ago in northern Italy, it was commissioned by the ruler of a people long since vanished. But their lost language is preserved on the pages of the book before you.

The Silver Bible disappeared, and for a thousand years its whereabouts were unknown.

Thought it was interesting to see another 'missing 1000 years' reference.

Interesting story! However you wouldn’t be able to tell the book by its cover. Wonder which bible...

So, this would make it the oldest surviving Bible on record, correct? Even if nobody can read it?

Wikipedia says:

• The "Silver Bible" was probably written for the Ostrogothic King Theodoric the Great, either at his royal seat in Ravenna, or in the Po valley or at Brescia.

Did it have a library card attached to it? Aren’t they tired of making stuff up?

Every single antiquity related text was lost for a thousand years +, after which it was miraculously found. What could it tell us?

The Codex Argenteus is one of our set texts -- long story short, it's a sixteenth century forgery made for the Swedes who were trying to establish themselves as the heirs to the Goths at the time. And were building Gothenburg in case anyone missed the point. Anyone interested can read about it here but it pops up on other threads.
