I thought about posting this in the Buildings forum, but, wait a minute, we don't have an Unsolved Mysteries thread? I'll bet you can almost hear the theme song now? I used to love that show and, lo and behold, Netflix just began a new iteration of the series. The first episode features the story of a man who either jumped or was thrown from the top of the Belvedere Hotel - Wikipedia, a Beaux Arts style building in Baltimore, Maryland. Don't we all love that Beaux Arts style here? The building is the star of the show, drone shots abound. In any case, between all of the content from the old show (think I remember one on the Black Eagle Trust being hidden in caves in the southwest for instance) and now the new one (the fourth or fifth episode about an alien abduction/UFO in 1969 was lame), I'll bet there's plenty of fodder for this thread. I'll revisit the topic once I've done a little digging. In the meantime, is it so hard to visualize Peter Falk and Robert Stack, both adorned in khaki trench coats no doubt, solving mysteries up there in the big TV Land in the sky??️‍♂️ I'll leave you with some pictures of the Belvedere. I haven't even read the wiki yet (about to now), anybody want to take a guess on if its history is, let's say, murky?

I'll leave you with some pictures:

Oh Snap! It's FIREPROOF, which explains why it hasn't burned down like so many of its peers. ?? Too bad they didn't share that fireproofing technology at one of the world fairs, what with all of the trouble with fires in the world. ??

Word, to be honest, my wife is the TV series watcher in the family. I'm usually close by, reading or gaming and have found that I enjoy being on the far periphery of understanding what's going on on the telly. I find that you can get a better grip on the visual symbology and the authenticity of the actors' performance. Rather perhaps than paying attention to story, dialogue and character arcs, etc... Remember the 3d picture fad of the 90's, well executed here: Magic Eye Inc. I like to imagine that my method of consumption is similar on at the level of a/v rather than the still pictures. ? In that same vein, I was a great lover of movies for the larger portion of my life; but have probably only been to the cinema half a dozen times since 2005 and only seen twice again that number of films produced after that time. Last movie the wife took me to was Downton Abbey; I knew nothing going in (she'd watched the show) and I must say that it was thoroughly enjoyable. Lovely facility innit? Highclere Castle - Wikipedia Seems like as Generation X and beyond have grown comfy in their hobbit holes, with their High Definition and smart everything and cheapening of video production via digital technology, yada, the the old circa 2 hour movie format is relatively on the sands of time. The movie theatre business has recently been ground to a halt because of the shutdown, for the first time since its inception really. Only something really important can shut down the bread and circuses we love so much. Don't worry about peppering me with examples of great movies of the recent past, that's not what I'm hitting at. Think what I'm trying to say is this: Picture (no pun intended) the might of the studio system (i.e. Gone With the Wind, Ben-Hur, Titanic) at the height of its power; as a means of creating a cultural paradigm through which society projected (no pun intended) reality upon itself... History as the 20th century inherited it, is inherently interwoven in Hollywood memetics. The distributors of film (tpb if you will) are still the same; nor has its broader agenda of poinsining the collective consciousness... Only the delivery method. Who is the big looser here? Besides for the obvious (always the proles and not to mention small independent theater owners), hasn't the theatre induistry always been heavilly connected to the mob because off all of the cash/ money laundry appeal? Cash money is going to be one of the losers; the public will cry out for crypto soon enough; 'we must have it... now!' 'What exactly is it now?,' they will wonder years later. To bring it all together, it reminds me of a quote from one of my wife's favorite movies, Steel Magnolias (maybe she will excuse me for dragging her into this if I slap this up. ? Yeah, and I better not go anywhere near how I interpret the etymology of the movie's title. ?) Considering the source, de facto Hollywood royalty, maybe this is some introspection on the part of the industry, no?

We don't watch much at all really.
And you may have forgotten... They don't really need actors now.
