Sounds like they had good intentions, but they demolished blocks of historical buildings for the purposes explained in the below video. Some of the comments to the vid:
  • The idiots destroyed what could have been a better Old Sacramento...
  • They destroyed a beautiful city.
  • They took out the city of Brighton.
I have never even heard about this Brighton city.

What do you think?

I remember being a kid in 1987 and driving on a freeway which I am pretty sure was I-5. Anyhow I remember seeing a very large maybe capitol building in the process of being partially demolished. I wonder what building it was? Nice post.

This short film produced by the Sacramento Bee and KFBK in 1958 tells us about the historic significance of Old Sacramento from the point of view of an architectural historian. The film shows buildings that no longer exist and really captures the essence of the district's historic significance. The fact that it was produced by the Bee demonstrates the dedication and leadership the newspaper and its editor, Eleanor McClatchy, had for preserving the city's beginnings long before a national preservation movement began.

I remember living in a really dangerous neighborhood in 1988 across from UMCS or whatever. The school I went to was all neger balls(Swedish chololate balls banned name) and a cursing time out system. Our house got on the list for demolition to make more room for the extension... Years recently I looked up the places I grew up Et cetera. (We moved a Lot) We were I was living in murder capitol. I thought it was nice and felt free. That is until I lost my virginity as the cockroaches ran up the walls in a damp dark gothic crab infested sugar daddy's bought money pit of an mortuary pit palace in new palace where hangover hippies sucked of their essence could chain smoke eat fried bacon eggs and morning cocktails before shipping them back. Thnx. The memories of the Americas. Bring me back!!!
