Thanks for the heads up on the Union Printers Home, what a juicy clue!
Constructed of white lava stone with red sandstone trimmings, the main building cost $60,000, the equivalent of $1.7 million in 2020. In 1892, this complex on the corner of Union Boulevard and Pikes Peak Avenue was a mile from the rest of the city.
The historians claim, with a straight face, that this is a photo of the construction of the UPH in 1891.
But wait! They have another construction photograph, complete with a (mis)info blurb! See any resemblance between the two? Yeah, me neither.
Can you believe either one of those construction projects turned into this elegant complex? Yep, me neither.
They sure got busy on the landscaping, just look at all those nice big trees and formal gardens in front of the complex.
According to this
recent article, the building is still in use but slated to be demolished soon. Here is a recent B&W picture that the article uses to illustrated the "decrepit" state of UPH at present.
Interesting stairs under that porch, looks like a whole other level down there. Would love to explore this place for clues before they raze it to the ground.
