As for the Native Americans,
I wonder if higher consciousness, nature worship, a rejection of religion, and enlightened spirituality were confused for " insanity."
Very sad story.

Old post, but. No confusion. In sweden people who fought the system were put in asylums well into the 1800´s when openly refusing religion. Seeing what the hidden hands did to natives there, it is no doubt why they sent them there.
