I'm curious about the idea of Ukraine being the historic center of Russia... I find the official history of viking "founders of Ukraine" suspect. For several reasons it is hard to believe Saint Petersburg & Moscow were totally built after Kyiv and emerged from it - as the mainstream historians claim. The orthodox churches in Ukraine and Russia both impressed me. I've been researching this forum's topics for about half a decade, and because I'm now based on Kyiv I'm hoping to get some pointers.

We obviously can't trust the official sources for "historic buildings by city" or "by country," but experientially Kyiv has the greatest diversity of old architecture that I've seen. I've attached a picture of a building that really stand out to me - any alternative ideas on its origins? It is now called the House of Actors. It strikes me as very old & different from 'Tartarian' or any cathedral architecture I've seen.

Secondly, any theories on whether Russia or Ukraine is older? What about the languages? Russians are often taught that Ukrainian is some degeneration of Russian, and Ukrainians are taught that Russian shares no history with Ukrainian - and was just enforced via authoritarianism.

Any Ukrainian or Russian researchers on this forum?
Thanks!

Wow. That door is crazy. The top looks like an anechoic chamber. As you get to the door, a silence probably descends on the approacher. Thanks for posting.

As far as I understand, Russia has been ruled by non-Russians for at least 400 years, all of the history we know went through two major cleanings: the first when the Romanov family came to power and rewrite history, then we have the USSR rewriting the history of not just Russians, but every nationality they got their hands onto. As far as i understand most of the history of Russia we have was wrote by Soviets, thus allowed by Soviets. What part of the Kiev Rus history did the soviets find compeling? How would this Kiev Rus help them in creating a global power?( the suposed goal of USSR)
On the point of language, which is older? Russian or Ukrainian, I figure старо-славянский would be older, that and the fact that the soviets tried hard to change the language to what is modern russian( this is a bit suspicious as Old slavic and Russian are almost completly different by todays standards. I heard that Old slavic and sanscrit look very similar).

Any reason why these two pictures of a synagogue in Kiev were posted here?

@Bl0ue Yes, old slavic is certainly older linguistically. All orthodox services run my Moscow Patriarchy are in old slavic. I'm not sure I'd say "the USSR" rewrote history because it was rather an international rootless group of people that spread communism in Russia.

@Razor2299 Seems like you didn't read the post. How is that a synagogue? I've never seen a synagogue like it... You recognize it by its appearance?

Fomenko stated in his "History: Fiction or Science" how archives burned down all over Russia a few years after the Romanovs (Romanov-Holstein-Gottorp) ascended to the throne. So yes, a falsification of the Russian pre-Romanov period is more then likely.
OTOH, there are many striking similarities between the Russian and Scandinavic languages, documented here as well. A "viking" influence seems plausible.
AFAIK, the Ukraine (kyrill. "y" = "u" meaning "at", "nearby" , край = "krai" meaning border) was founded by the tsar as a buffer area to southern enemies. He supposedly granted the land to the cossacks, under the condition that they serve him during war times.

So much in plain site to coin a phrase but put there in plain site? Look forward to your thoughts and research
