I didn't say you overlooked the current climate. I said you overlooked that the sea level, climate, geography etc appear to be different now compared to hundreds of years ago. Primitive housing? Norumbega was said to be a great, gilded city. DIFFERENT THAN TODAY. Please try to comprehend before you respond.

To be fair, you wrote "The maps and historical record show a completely geography and climate" leaving out the word "different", which did make it a little confusing.

Well you certainly have put a lot of thought into a theory of Norumbega quite unlike any other I've found. At the risk of being rude I have to tell you I think you're way off target.

no not much thought at all. wiki was quite helpful with the golden city. i know that saint john is not a pleasant coastal city like say halifax and its a solid rock. noone would live there unless they had to. i know that just a little up river it is quite pleasant and has always supported a large native population who made unique and beautiful stone [slate] weapons. i know from my school days there was some type of large and unique native settlement at the spot i indicated because i was there to dig it. it takes little thought to recognize its the best spot on the river. you will note there is also gold there... that took 2 seconds to find just for the occasion. you put as little thought into it as i did. feel good.

as an aside a man in a golden cauldron was found buried at currie mountain [just outside fredericton] by a crew of railroad builders in the 20s. they cut up the cauldron and divided it amongst themselves.

I think your perspective is very myopic.

well possibly.
by the time of champlain the natives had fortified themselves into a small village with a big lodge on navy island. had norumbega been destroyed by that point?

i see champlain drew a pond over by the digby ferry terminal with a stream from it.

Good as anywhere...
IF there was an island off the WEST coast in the 1600s, that is now NO LONGER THERE (watch the video), and they used to think this continent was attached to Asia, or close, then it just goes to show things can MOVE.
Get out your diving gear. Time to find Atlantis.

I was looking through some old books on Gallica and I came across this book with this map. Which is dated between 1539 and 1585. I notice all the towns on the map in northern america that we're not told about. Not only that but Norumbega or the area is marked down as DeNorumbega. Theres no great lakes I notice and there are lots of islands that no longer exist. Cosmographia universalis et exactissima juxta postremam neotericorum traditionem... norumbega means " river running back" or "the river is wide" in algonkian. counting the rivers on the map norembega should be on the st John river.
the head of the tide on the river is here. its also where the river becomes wide traveling from the north.

peace
