Why, exactly, did they give us the internet?

I have been wondering about this question lately. The internet has allowed us to learn of things that we likely wouldn't have known or looked into before. Think about all the photographs that we have been able to compare from around the world of buildings, structures and other anomalies that we would never have seen in our lives otherwise and has allowed us to put the pieces together. Surely it's against their interests to allow us to communicate freely and instantly across the world like this? Did they not think we would find out or do they perhaps want us to find the truth? I didn't see another thread specifically about this subject so I thought I'd make it and see what anyone else thinks.

Do you remember phone numbers or routes to places or do you default to phones? Reality is already intermediated for you, to some extent.

Right now, we're in transition - moving from books as stores or knowledge - to the internet. The difference being that the internet has the advantage of being easily editable. This time of transition can be interesting if you have your eyes open. I wouldn't worry too much about a widespread break out of learning.

With ai further intermediating the internet (which itself is a managed subset of information), it will be surely possible to to manage reality in an automated fashion for each individual, tailoring information for each person. Doesn't it seem like we are already within our own echochambers already? Surely a more overt management of 'misinformation' is yet to come.

Great question.

Library Genesis: Claus Pias (editor) - Cybernetics: The Macy Conferences 1946-1953: The Complete Transactions

Between 1946 and 1953, the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation sponsored a series of conferences aiming to bring together a diverse, interdisciplinary community of scholars and researchers who would join forces to lay the groundwork for the new science of cybernetics.

Postwar plannng for social control. Cyber is Greek for "to steer", as in, to steer society.

My first impressions of the internet in the 90s were:
1- This will kill print.
2- It's a great surveillance tool.

The internet was funded by DARPA (the D stands for Defense, or MIL).

Google, Facebook, etc., were startup funded by In-Q-Tel, intel.

Mondo magazine (on archive) and similar propaganda sold the internet in the 90s as a cool hippie thing, to get it started. To get the trendsetters on board. And so it goes.

So cybernet is to steer us into the net? I remember when the ‘world wide web’ first emerged asking someone who knew about these things why they used such weird dungeons and dragons-like imagery: web, server, bugs, and later trolls. It seemed very male, nerdy, gameboy. Later on, teaching my students about Tim Berners-Lee the ‘inventor’ of the internet, I marvelled at how philanthropic he was for giving it to us for nothing. Little did I know that we were slowly being drawn into the heart of the web only to be surrounded by the net that’s choked us all. How clever was that? And they told us, just like they always do, through the language used and the SciFi films they created, that that’s what would happen. ‘Can’t say we didn’t warn you’. That Masonic mantra. By the way, the internet in the UK is always lower case but, in most other languages, it’s capitalised (a bit like God vs the gods). Any idea why?

Berners Lee = CERN. One of the ground zeroes.

Short video: CERN, Stargates, Illuminati, the Hardon Collider

Not sure about the uk/us language uc/lc but yep. Tech language is very revealing.

Maybe "Silicon Valley" has to do with a past age when huge trees were made of silicon. This idea expanded upon in Ewaranon and Ivanova's lost history videos.

They look down upon us so much that even knowing the "risks" they didn't care. The control and power of communicating to the entire world simultaneously the internet give is like magic. They trusted in the stupidity of the people, and to a certain extent they are right. The overwhelming majority of people are idiots and easily manipulated and selfish. It's sad but true.

I discovered hundreds of lies. And what can I do with this knowledge in the real world? Nothing, you can't even talk to someone from your family or with a friends. In fact, you can if you want have a fight, be called several names, laugh in your face or in some subjects they will get so angry to the point of wanting to attack you.

My case, I'm curious. Everything I see or hear I have to "Why, How, Who, Where." So I learn to myself. That's why I'm satisfied with just learning. But I really enjoy place like here, to share, learn.

An important point about about Internet is people imagine that something is much more than it is in reality. Anyone can live without the internet. For exemplo: If you have a piece of land, you can live a very dignified (boring) life without ever using the internet.

That's not my case, I started using the internet in 1996 and I have no plans to live without it.

Another illusion is AI. I can't understand what kind of spell it is to think that AI is some kind of magic that can do everything and can be used for everything. Sometimes like is a live entity that will conquer the world and dominate everyone.
AI is just another tool to deceive people, I like to say that AI is "The Amazon Just Walk Out."

Hey, you're in the 1% that first used internet. Smart club.

And yes...it's happened. Emailed a friend literally "one" sentence of truth only to receive maniancal tirades in reply.

AI will go in the same box as google glasses, VR and 3D tv. Apple is pushing goggles too. The good news, it seems few really want this.

For the 50% with an iq below 100/average, they can't see how easily their use of AI is naturally spotted by the smarter.

Anyway, all the internet really is is a delicate fragile network of cables, cords, and boxes.

Great topic. My cynical (rightfully so) response is that it's like gatekeeping I suppose; yeah sure they'll be able to 'talk' more but so what, they'll talk about what we suggest and we'll be able to monitor it all....they give us nothing real....we were much stronger healthier people before the internet, I remember the eighties....

And we can see in real time how information is there one day and gone the next.

Such a great question tetromino...

I wonder AtL, what if all those cords and cables all add up to one big brain....or really one big mind.....what if what some say is true; this world weather flat round or concave is literally shaped by 'magic'. That everything that happens is a manifestation of all the combined thoughts and feelings of all the people...

And the interweb is a neat way to try and harness that energy....by the bad guys.....because they hate us.....

I wonder. As for AI, I think it's maybe not in the same category as vr etc...truthfully, I honest to God believe it's some sort of vector for basically demons to infiltrate this world....I really do....

Was thinking more in terms of how easy it would be to perform lobotomies.

The internet has gone from connecting the top-half people to something most dully stare at all day.

As for vector check out Thomas Sheridan, Who's Scrying Now, about how the black mirror of the phone is a portal. Who's Scrying Now? by Thomas Sheridan

Simple, it wasn't supposed to be released. It began, as most things, as the supreme surveillance tool for the military, it exists since the early 1960s at least as ARPANET, and from my understanding it wasn't that different from what we have today.

A gatekeep of more or less 40 years, if this world wasn't ruled by psycho demons, we could have had it since the 60s, i like to imagine the differences in knowledge we could have when it comes to truth being unveiled

And it's a wild thought experiment to imagine what is being supressed currently
