Getting back to atmospheric electricity, you wouldn't need a corona motor or a wire being held up hundreds of meters. The power could come from a large antennae array somewhere remote and then be fed to the tram via a roof mounted accordion-like contraption such as is on this old strassenbahn in Innsbruck.

The only issue I can see is that atmospheric electricity is apparently DC, which doesn't carry over distances as well as AC does, so it might have to be converted.
