Quora.com had this: There were times on Earth when the oceans were much smaller...because the rest was frozen, like during ice ages.

I find this map interesting for a number of reasons.
I live in New Zealand.
The map depicts a fish underneath 'Australia'. Our legends talk about the land being a fish pulled out of the sea.
The name on this piece of the map is Maoaillah.... our name is Maori.
I also noted the long stroke above the first 'A'. This is still the same pronounciation today.

I have a couple insights for the thread.
The date below is read 543 a.d. Instead of using ad/bc, dates were depicted with a preceding 'I' or 'j' for Jesus, mean years after Jesus' birth.

543ad.jpg

The following Crest depicts a Griffin. In this case, the eagle and lion are separated, but the symbology remains. This is the eastern empire's sphinx, both meaning king of kings. King of the air and king of the land/pharaoh king and lion king. Another shared symbol from the east is the owl. It is the Pharaoh eagle-owl (bubo ascalaphus). It's the Eagle's counterpart from the Sumerian myth of etana, where the eagle and the serpent rest at the top and bottom of the world tree, both promising to watch over the children of God. The sumerians revered duality, including day and night. Since the eagle is unable to watch the children at night, he needs a nighttime counterpart.

EastGriffin.jpg

This leads into the next one, which is the 2 aspects that the sumerians identified as those which maintain order; rule of law and power over life and death. The red cross signifies power over life and death, with the furrow and sheafs of grain representing life. This symbology has been represented as a bundle of arrows (fasces), Roman fasces (instrument of death held in control by bundle of wood), the serpent, the serpent bearer, healer, and red cross. The eagle on the US dollar, Aquila, faces the rule of law, which is why every president announces how they respect it. His counterpart, moloch the owl is hidden in the webbing. If the Eagle's head faces right, it's power of life and death, double headed eagles (the Olmec even used it) symbolizes that they are doing work straight from the top. Both the white Pope and red bishop use it because they are at the top of a unified empire. Hitler worked for the Pope. Side note-the other 2 colors for the 4 horseman are the black general of the Jesuits and the green Imam (ayatollah Khomeini was one). The green represents the pale horse because the color is hidden in the definition of pale.

My conjecture of the map is that the bulge is Easter Island- Maoi.

The core religion and symbolism of both the Latin catholic and Eastern orthodox factions originates in Sumeria. In fact, the Masonic 33 degrees refers to the Sumerian zodiac, path of En-lil. They are the first 33 gods on earth. They built Edin (eden), so when a member performs a "great service to mankind", as the first 33 (en-lil, enki, etc...), they are included as a God on earth and given an apotheosis.

Notice that Washington points to the rule of law on the left, and holds the power over life and death on the right, same as the eagle iconography. Perhaps, Republicans represent the rule of law and the Democrats represent the power over life and death? Tin hat, I know, but the empire has a weird history of doing this type of stuff.

Last note, to read where the eagle on the dollar comes from, it's lines 10-12 of the Path of Anu, sumerian zodiac. It represents Scorpio and Libra, with libra being the left claw. Also note the similarity between "Aesculapius", the corpse, and the scientific name of the eagle-owl, "The Pharaoh eagle-owl (Bubo ascalaphus)".

10. The Seed-Furrow (AB.SIN), d.Shala (with the) sheaf of grain
AK: SHU.PA is Arcturus and AB.SIN is Spica. According to the MUL.APIN table of heliacal risings, AB.SIN rises 10 days after SHU.PA and SHU.PA rises 60
days after KAK.SI.SA. This can only mean that the lance Monoceros ran to Alphard, at which point it hits and kills the snake.
11. The Scales (ZI.BA.AN.NA), the "horn" of the scorpion
AK: This is Libra. The Akkadian term is zibanitum, described as MUL d.Shamash d.UD
"constellation of the sun" and applied to the star alpha-Librae in Libra,
which in Arabic is Uz Zubana viz. Zubenelgenubi.
The term Sumerian ZI.BA.AN.NA could be Latvian SPAINI "pails",
i.e. the two contra-weights of the scale, and similar to how water was carried in ancient days on a crossbar with two pails on one's back, but it might also mean "sharp"
as the Latvian term ZIBENA "like lightning, lightning, sharp"
but also "prong, claw" in view of Latvian ZHUBURA "prong, fork," - which
might also be related to Nr. 12 below, i.e. the "clawed" bird.)
12. d.ZA.BA4.BA4, the Eagle TI8.(MUSHEN)
and the Corpse (LU).USH
AK: The eagle is Aquila and the corpse is Ophiuchus, associated with the corpse of Aesculapius. Sumerian LU.USH "corpse, dead body" = Latvian LIKIS "corpse,
dead body". [That has brought us back to Enif.]

hmm, it doesnt really look like a '5', more like an 'S'....and is more apart from the '4' than the '3' is. They look properly formed in comparison.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I'll have to look through the older maps again, I remember a few where I thought that. We may be missing something with the "s" by seeing it as a 5. There would undoubtably be a reasoning behind the S.

Here is another example of erroneous dating using the letter i or j in 1599/599.

@JasonP, your long post sounded very erudite so I'm embarrassed to admit that I have no idea what you said or what it's meant to convey. Could you break it down for the slow kids? Thanks.

Also, iirc, the letter J came about in the 1400's. The letter I was used in Greek texts for the educated class.
In any case, by 1599 the letter J was in use at least in the English language.

Earlier in the post, the OP showed the map date, which corresponds to the publication date. However, it contains the letter 'i'. In the past, it was common to precede the date with the interchangeable letters 'i' or 'j', which is the first letter in Jesus and meant "years since the birth of christ" (a.d.). The practice goes back to Rome, where the 'x' (letter chi) was used. This, possibly, could have led to erroneous time as the 'x' was seen to represent 10 centuries rather than a.d.

In religion, the letter 'x' was often accompanied by 'p' (letter rho) and is the famous chi-rho (xp) representation of christ. The letter 'p' was used to signify holiness can be seen in religion on top of an 'x'. The 'p' is Venus, the 'x' is Mars (also crossed swords, crossed bones), and the resultant 6 pointed star is Saturn, the empire's original trinity.

In ancient Hebrew the letter resh symbolized wickedness, and if one wanted to be holy, they took a step back to 'p'.

"The Letter Resh (ר) The letter ר (resh) represents wickedness, as the word for a wicked person רָשָׁע (rasha) begins with a resh. When a wicked person wants to correct their bad behavior and return to being a good person, he goes a step back, there he "meets" the letter ק"

good post ... you are not the first to mention 543 for that image but the 5 character does not look like many other 5s but rather an S - do you think it is simply a type setting where one character is reused for alpha and numeric, like the I character and 1?

I agree, it does look like an 's' on the left side. The i can be seen in many places. I have seen a book on European nobility births written in German where the i is used in the dates, but 1's are used throughout the book. My understanding of the older maps is that they are drawn or carved into woodcuts for printing. Could possibly just be the way the artist or craftsman writes a 5. For example, Guillaume's 1543 date on the left of the map looks more like an 's' than his 1543 on the right side.

Interestingly, I attempted to learn more about Guillaume himself, but am unable to find anything about his life or birthday. Same for other Dieppe cartographers, John Rotz and Jave Le Grande. Strange, because the maps were supposedly commissioned by 2 European kings. The royalty and nobility kept detailed records in those days. Not so much for commoners, but a commoner wouldn't be commissioned by a pair of Kings. Commissioning random cartographers would likely be too risky for their expeditions. It would make sense if the dating was incorrect, but hard to say since I'm running into walls trying to learn about the cartographers. Would be funny if the Dieppe people pulled a fast one on the kings and sold them some ancient maps, but also unlikely because I didn't see where any of them had their heads lopped off.

If you run into any other examples of an 's' usage, please let me know. It would be interesting to learn about it.
It just dawned on me that Cairo is phonetically the same to Chi-Rho, and Mars has been noted by many researchers as being a major influence on the Christ figure. I have a Brittanica dictionary from 1768 and it says the pronunciation is ki-ro. Weird, and very cool.

Super map that raises more questions than it answers. I used to be fairly conviced australia broke off from Antarctica after a quick look at other maps, but now it looks like it broke from s America instead. What a transition though. And s america rose up to form its podgy 16th century shape too. This means the west coast of that continent is very young. What kind of shit show went down back then, and continously too. How civilisation survived i don't know.

The tilde is a diacritic mark in the form of a sideways S but doesn't exactly match the one above. Still, it may be some scribe's shorthand. They used quite a few different ones.

I'm beginning to think there was no calendar like we know it today (linear, fixing dates in time) before the 1300s and the "dark ages" and reclamation by the STURCH.
I think the rest was made up and given arbitrary dates or fixed to serve their purposes.
Damn! The entire Roman Legion just had its ass handed to it by some cataclysms, even wiping away much of its history and exploits.
And it will happen AGAIN. Our choice whether we want to do it NOW, or let things get stupider and make the earth have to do it. Now would be the better choice.
