ok, first things first.
symbology vs. symbolism
Noun - symbology (
countable and uncountable,
plural symbologies)
- (uncountable) The study or use of symbols.
- (countable) An encoding scheme, particularly for barcodes.
Noun - symbolism (
countable and uncountable,
plural symbolisms)
- Representation of a concept through symbols or underlying meanings of objects or qualities. [from between 1645 and 1655.]
- (obsolete) A combining together of parts or ingredients.
Symbology is more like the name of the discipline, subject, study-area.
Symbolism pertains to each individual symbol and the concept embedded within it, what it's meant to evoke in the viewer.
So saying the 'symbology of the double heaed eagle' is like saying the 'vexilology of France' for example when you really mean just the flag.
I'm only saying it implies a certain degree of amateurship.
What you want is to undertand the symbolism.
Symbolism 101
In order to truly understand how symbolism works and not just choose to believe this or that explanation you must became acquainted with a different type of thinking. Some call it 'right-brain'.
Symbols are like a language of their own. Much the same way in which the architecture of a beautiful building 'speaks' to you, each symbol tells a story, evokes something within you. Now the main reason symbolism is so 'fringe' these days, so miss-understood, so ignored is that if that certain something it's trying to evoke is not there,.. well then there's really not that much you can get from it, is there?
Symbolism works like an encoding tool and it comes with certain prerequisites, there's a method to it. Just like in classic encryption you have:
- the unincrypted message
- the encryption of the message so that it cannot be understood by the 'enemy' (just sayin')
- the decrypting tool which allows the receiver to reverse the process and
- to turn said unrecognizable message into the original unincrypted message.
Just imagine the incrypting and decrypting parts as a sort of knowledge, a book they've read, reread, understood and appropriated the knowledge within to the point that they stopped carrying the book around everywhere they went, they just know it - its wisdom is now inherent in the way they look at things. It's like those who read the book understand the message, and the others are left in the dark.
OK. Now as far as symbolism goes.. of course we're not talking about an actual book. The knowledge I'm referring to is, simply put, the true nature of the world we live in and of the laws that govern it. Some call it truth, truth about us, our world, out life, everything - it is precisely that structure, that understanding lacking in most of us that keeps us in bondage, in chaos, in slavery. So it is because people generally don't understand themselves, the world and the inherent laws that they don't understand symbolism. Most haven't even heard of the possibility of the existence of such a 'book'. Or at most they've heard rumours it's mysterious.
Moving on. Symbolism relies upon conceptual thinking, making associations, an algorithmic approach and the capacity of looking at things from different perspectives, as it were 'borrowing' borrowing someone else's perspective. It's the ability of 'entertaining' a though without accepting or rejecting it. Over the years I've come to think of myself as a 'conceptual contortionist'. Pattern recognition is also key.
One prerequisite to understanding symbolism is alligning to truth. The lost art of the Trivium (tri - 3 , via - way) comes to mind again.
It is the one and only algorithmic manner of correct thinking that leads to truth discovery. Some say it's the true Trinity. I agree.
It's based on human physilogy corellated with the true relation between all disciplines/areas of study.
Long story short you are the most complex piece of equipment in this world. It's just that you were never given the 'user manual' on how you work. Even modern science admits the human brain is the most complex thing in the world. But they only tackle the physical part of it.
Human consciousness is 3-fold in nature. Will, emotions and thinking. Everything fits in these 3 categories, everything.
The human central nervous system is 3-fold in nature also. What a coincidence.
1. Reptilian brain. Will - mostly will to live. Reptiles only have this, that's why they're cold-blooded - because they don't have any emotions. It's just response to environmental stimuli, and the will to keep on living.
2. Mammalian brain. Mammals have reptilian brain + mammalian brain, which allows them to feel emotions. Thats why your dog truly loves you and your cat could. That's why you can bond with animals, they feel emotions - they don't understand the words, but the feel the tone, the emotions attached.
3. Neocortex. This is the part of the brain for higher thinking. And, of course, this is also where it gets a bit more complex.
So you have the 2 hemispheres. This is what I was alluding to earlier by saying that symbolism is a right-brain thing.
The left is associated with masculinity and the right with femininity. Rigid-flexible, focus-big picture, linear thinking - associative thinking.
The 2 masonic pillars represent this. They are 'of the left hand path' because they focus only on the masculine and ignore the feminine aspects in order to keep people out of balance. That's why the church's idea of holy trinity is 'father, son and holy ghost' - an interesting family dynamic there, wouldn't you say? And that's why school only focuses on left brain - to keep you at a certain level, only looking at things the way they taught you to, not realizing there are other ways.
There is nothing implicitly wrong with the left side, they are just 2 sides of the same coin. You can't have one without the other. They are just different.
The balance between the 2 hemispheres in each individual determines the quality of thinking that individual is capable at that time. It is inescapable. Another very important aspect is the fact that the worldview determines behaviour, you act according to what/how you think.
Given the chaotic nature of the world we live in not too many have this balance between the masculine and the feminine within in check.
Most have a left-brain imbalance, almost all their thinking is primarily left-brain. They see from that perspective. This leads to an imbalance - because the neocortex isn't calibrated properly, the higher level thinking processes are rerouted and in this case they go to the reptilian brain.
This means the individual doesn't have access to higher thinking and all the decisions and the behaviour stem from a perspective of strictly surviving. Response to environmental stimuli, egoistic approach, no emotions.. me against the world.
Right-brain imbalance is like being all-over the place, wishy-washy thinking, lack of structure, inner-discipline. In leads to the rerouting of the neocortex functions to the mammalian brain. Emotional thinking. Emotions are meant as a moral compass. You know when you do something wrong, you feel good when you help someone, so on.. You feel it physically. In the case of this kind of imbalance the individual doesn't use emotion as a compass, as an insight as to what right and what is wrong - they are in a point where they ignore certain emotions, pretending they are not there(lying to themselves) and center their behaviour on getting to feel the emotions they want to feel. (the "love and light" people that refuse to acknowledge the problems in the world because it makes them feel bad)
Left-brain in master mentality and right-brain is slave mentality as far as imbalances go.
True harmony between the 2 hemispheres unlocks the potential of the individual, allows them to allign themselves to truth, not try to make the outside world allign to their ideas. The real magic happens when using both at the same time. The 3rd eye/pineal gland is associated with this state. It's like there's something in your brain that only lights up when you're using it the way it's meant. Think about it..
The brain works based on subtle electrical impulses, there are literally photoreceptors in your pineal gland, situated between the hemispheres, basically smack in the middle, but there has to be a flow of current for that part to be 'brought to life'.
This is what the proverbial 'light within', 'know thyself' or 'look within' alludes to. The light within is the true light, the sun is symbolically the deceiver meant to keep you looking outside of yourself for answers, ignoring your own self.
In occult / hermetic / hidden knowledge man is also considered 3-fold: body, soul and spirit.
The thing is depending on how we feel, think and act in the world we can become shut off from the spirit. And this realm is the ideal one, one of principles, of truth. It is unwavering. It is only us that can choose to allign with it, and only when this connection is established we can as it were live life as it was intended, or reach our full potential. This connection to the divine is what sets us free.
What does it imply? Living in truth, adhereing to the laws of this universe - but, first of all - the removal of contradictions from within.
As you feel, so you think and so you act. Don't fight yourself, don't waste your energy needlessly pulling in all directions at once.
On one level the brain works like any muscle.. it gets atrophied when not exercised properly.
Are you beginning to sense how 'meta' this is going to get?
The trivium, as stated above is one level the first 3 disciplines of classical education. The other 4 comprise the quadrivium, together forming what we call the '7 liberal arts'. Liberal because they lead to liberty/freedom.
1. grammar - in the sense of what do we mean by the terms we use, just so we are on the same page.
- the information you are taking into consideration
2. logic - removal of inconsistencies (logical fallacies - common pattern of lying both consciously and unconsciously)
3. rhetoric - presenting the conclusion
The quadrivium pertains to measuring things in the world by use of abstract concepts.
4. algebra - study of the point. - the most simple abstraction(representation of something that is not really there) and inherent truths of the world of algebra. (pretty unwavering)
5. geometry - study of the point in space - spacial harmony
6. music - study of the point in time - rithm, harmony in music
7. astrology - study of the point in both space and time - as above so below - understanding of one's place in the world.
The basic pythagorean theorem and triangle (3*2+4*2=5*2, namely 9+16=25) is symbolic of this true relation between the following:
the trivium - the vertical line is symbolic of our allignment to truth and divinity.
the quadrivium - is symbolic of the measuring/weighing of this world - the horizontal
the 5 senses - is what gets activated when we appropriate the first 2 concepts. It's what gets alluded to by the phrases 'for those that have eyes to see and ears to hear' or 'beauty is in the eyes of the beholder'. (if you do not know what something is, how can you recognize it) - it's in the word as well 're-cognize', you can't re-cognize anything if you haven't 'cognized'(thought about it) in the first place.
So basically you have the trivium(relating to the divine, spirit) and the quadrivium(relating to the material world, body) bridged by the 5 senses(input from the material to the spiritual, soul, psyche, personality, call it however you may wish)
OK. Now I told you this story so I can tell you this story.
The world of symbolism can only be understood when 'fully functional' as it were because all its references are pertaining to archetypal truths about different elements in the world. So if those are lacking you can't make heads or tails of it.
I find the best approach to symbolism is in the lines of Jung's archetypal theory of the pshyche.. it goes into the collective unconscious which is like the collective spirit of mankind containing all possibilities of roles and attributes individuals draw from to define themselves.
Without overcomplicating things, in his basic view everything in the world exists as an individuated case of a general archetype. Basic mind over matter, "in the beginning there was the Word" - as in for anything to exist it has to first be born in someone's mind. The idea always precedes the carrying out of the idea. True both for the world and for us.
All archetypes have 2 primary sets of distinctions.
- masculine or feminine (of course not strictly gender)
- positive or negative
Just like in the case of 'Tartaria' and 'the empire'.. in many instances you find the same symbol used by both with slight alterations. This is because the parasitical mentality cannot create on its own, it can only steal, copy and appropriate. So their inteded interpretation of any once sacred symbol is always some sick and twisted inversion meant to induce some sort of cognitive dissonance, making you doubt yourself and constantly obfuscating things.
example: Say the Rus did conquer Tartatia and they just labelled themselves as the tartars, stole their riches, their history, their symbols, their everything. What a mindjob..
In masonic 'lingo' one of the symbolic meanings of the checkered floor is that it plays with your mind.. it's different(colour) and the same(pattern) at the same time. One tile white, one black.. all across the floor. Why? It's like their goal to convince people that black is white and vice versa. This is the underlying reason for all the inconsistent information floating around about anything - just so you don't know which is which, everything becomes relative, even the existence of truth becomes questionable, not to mention actually getting to it.
I stumbled across this thing recently where it was talking about education at the time they took the Trivium out of schools and switched to outcome-based education. And they went so far as to calculate how much it would cost to convince children that snow is black(per head) and how much cheaper would it be to make them believe that it's just dark grey.
See the mentalities are so different that most regular people cannot even conceptualize that kind of evil. They can't believe someone could do that, they can't imagine it actually because their education was strictly left-brain.
If you made it this far I congratulate you, I'm sure it wasn't easy.
Now the double/triple headed eagle
In my opinion as far as the number of heads and crowns this is the original and the others are variations on it.
The archetype evoked here is as following:
The 2 heads symbolize the 2 aforementioned hemispheres of the brain - we basically all have 2 brains/2 heads. The little crown above each head stands for the limited sovereignty of each part, being ruled over by the divine aspect of spirit(big crown in the middle) when in harmony as I've talked about before - 3rd eye, light within, however you may wish to call it. Negative version is the concept of hegelian dialectic and the idea of controlling both sides of the apparent conflict to bring about the 'hidden hand' agenda.
The sceptre(left) and the orb(right) are also symbols of sovereignty. In unspoiled symbolism these things are meant to be understood in context as 'every man his own master', each man governing his own self, and nothing more. This was later usurped by the 'royal bloodlines' which exteriorize the whole concept. It's strictly them who are the sovereigns and they rule over us, the slaves.
The sceptre is sometimes replaced by the sword or the mace - I think of it in terms of 'of this world', while the spherical orb pertains to 'not of this world' (the perfect shape). It even has 2 hemispheres on the upper part and the cross(4 arrows pointing within) on top symbolizing the union of the material with the spiritual, within.
As long as were here and I happened to choose this picture, the "st. george slaying the dragon" is a classic.
positive: it symbolizes the triumph of the higher self over the animalistic impulses(/desires). The self discipline, determination and will it takes to truly bring to light that which is negative within and kill it. It's an alchemical process. Look into the 7 operations of alchemy for greater depth.
negative: it symbolizes the triumph of 'the empire' over 'Tartaria'(who used the symbol of the dragon on their flag). It's their screwed up way of trying to portray themselves as the good guys for having gotten rid of 'the savages'.
Lest we forget.. why an eagle? The eagle is associated with height(getting higher to have a better perspective on things, rising above the situation as it were to better understand the context), sharp vision (sharp thinking, seeing things for what they really are, even from the distance). The flipside is that it's a bird of prey - which is exactly what the empire does.
This symbol(the whole double-headed eagle I mean) used to be everywhere because everybody knew the truth back in the day, it hadn't been occulted yet.
I could go on, but I have to end this post..
In my experience this kind of information changed my life, what you choose to do with it from now on is your problem, I only encourage you to pass it on, it's the only reasonable thing to do.
Tomorrow just might be the first day of the rest of your life.
PS: Look into Mark Passio for more on the trivium.
What On Earth Is Happening (I'm not saying believe everything the man says, I'm saying check if he's right. The material is almost never talked about, anywhere, in any circumstances)

Why would somebody create a symbol for two brain hemispheres? Just curious...
