New Kingdom cemetery with complete papyrus found in Minya – The History Blog

Marge Simpson! 4 toes, 5 toes...

The inner part of the lid of her sarcophagus is painted with figures representing the 12 hours and a central figure who bears a striking resemblance to Marge Simpson.
Indeed.

On the 4 and 5 toes thing... Its quite the oversight.

21 things you never knew about The Simpsons
1 God and his son Jesus are the only characters on The Simpsons to have a full set of five digits. They also have five toes on each foot. Everyone else has three fingers and a thumb on each hand, and four toes on each foot.
So this Marge, is half god/half normal? Her left hand side is godly? What kind of messaging is this?!?

A New Kingdom cemetery with richly furnished burials and a complete papyrus has been discovered in Ghoreifa near the site of Tuna El Gebel in the Minya Governorate of Upper Egypt. Thousands of artifacts were unearthed from the rock-cut tombs. Inscriptions on the funerary objects and sarcophagi identify the deceased as the senior officials and high priests of the 15th nome of Upper Egypt under the pharaohs of the New Kingdom (ca. 1550 B.C.-1069 B.C.).
1550 B.C.-1069 B.C. ie 3500 years old

The site has been excavated every season since 2017 and the Egyptian archaeological mission has been looking for the New Kingdom cemetery of the 15th nome and its capital Ashmunin this whole time. It finally emerged in the most recent excavation that began last August in the northern section of the site.

Oldest papyrus ever?

The papyrus is a Book of the Dead in an excellent state of preservation. It has not been fully unrolled yet, but archaeologists estimate it is between 40 and 50 feet long. It is the first complete papyrus found in the Al-Ghoraifa area. When it has been conserved and stabilized, it will go on display at the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
huge 3500 year old papyrus, not cornflake-sized at all, needs conservation and stabilisation, going on display soon!

On with the franchise! See you next year, Bart! Or Homer! Actually, can we have Homer with a plate of doughnuts?
(Ask and you shall receive.)

I have seen and looked into this.

First word discovered in unopened Herculaneum scroll by 21yo computer science student

What's interesting to me is that this process of reading the scroll could be tested and validated - but isn't.

What happens is that the burnt scroll is scanned. It is then unrolled in software, and then with software again, the scroll is 'read' - the ink leaves a small residue apparently. This second piece of software that reads the scroll is what they are giving the prizes out for in the link I posted.

My point is this. Let us grant that this reading scanned, burnt scrolls is theoretically possible... Why wouldn't you test this yourself? You could get some thick paper or a newsletter, bake it in an over until it is also blackened, then scan it. You could then compare the results of a blind trial (ie no knowledge of the text) with the output of your software processes, and share the results with the world. And you could run your test thousands of times, as its cheap to do so.

Or you could do none of that, and work directly with the scrolls.

Perhaps what is going on is that software trained to find certain letters in noise, will do so, whether the letters are really there or not... I'm not a fan of working entirely 'in silico', ie with software models of reality.

When it ought to be so easy to validate this process, you have to have open testing of this 'letter finding process' and show that it repeatedly works with burnt test materials. Fiddling and finessing the results on this or that scanned data is far less convincing.

My logic -- the state of Israel is unique in that it derives its legitimacy exclusively from claims made in a handful of old texts. Mutatis mutandis, such a state will have the greatest incentive to forge history, and must therefore be held to the highest possible standards of proof.

.
That's not correct and a common misconception.

Texts from antiquity can be disputed in any culture or region.
People tend to think in black and white terms of antique Jewish history gapped by 2-3k years of nothing, then you suddenly have Israel, but that's not how it was.
Jewish life continued in Israel in all periods, especially pre-Crusades and in 17th century. It is backed both by documents (Jewish and external) and old synagogues found in Israel. The "issue" is that:
1. Israel switched a dozen hands in a millenia, with each new ruler putting entire populations to exile.
2. Jewish population couldn't grow to a nation-size group, and so couldn't the other groups (Arabs, Greeks, Arameans).

In the 1700s, Jews were already the slight majority in Israel. That's before Zionism was even invented. Might come as a surprise, but Gaza city was mostly Christian and Jewish.

When it comes to historical forgery, the focus is with the "golden age" of David and Solomon. There are ultra nationalists in Israel, a rather small but noisy group, who want to make the past bigger than it was. The real Jewish history of Israel (what can be sort of verified) isn't a fairytale: it is full with bad kings, corruption, exchanges with other religions, tons of Greek influence and basically what happened to almost every group in the world. But it's not "selling" enough to those people. They need the image of a huge Temple and a "larger than life" kind of nation. Therefore the most blatant forgeries are in that period. However, as I said, there's plenty of Jewish history in Israel in the Roman and post-Roman period that is obvious and verifiable, you don't need to work to prove it.

When it comes to historical forgery, the focus is with the "golden age" of David and Solomon
This is definitely true. There's no evidence for a Solomonic empire. The claim is that he ruled from Egypt to Israel if I recall correctly.

There are also other historical strangenesses. For example, I have read that "pharaoh" isn't an Egyptian term and occured first in the Torah. I'm not sure how much evidence of Jewish captivity in Egypt exists. Someone on here posted a fairly persuasive article that the Jews weren't actually in Egypt, and were instead elsewhere (the Arabian Penninsula).

(Does anyone know if the 1700s Levantine Jews were Karaites or were they Talmudists? Slightly off-topic I suppose. Would welcome a DM.)

But via their own claims, Israel wasn't their place of origin, they conquered it from other tribes (again, if I recall correctly). So the claim is based on a historical snapshot. It is as if Germans were to claim the area that was formerly Prussia and invite all ethnic Germans to live there, then set up checkpoints for Poles driving through the region.

Something different - a case study in more recent history, one that is admitted to be a hoax by the mass media, and by the perpetrator of the lie himself, in his own words on video:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=bpmJDivRGIw

This video instantly became a fakery classic, for me. I recognise that it relates to contentious subjects (Israel, holocaust) but that's not what I like about it.

What I like is the sheer, well, chutzpah of it. The guy crafts this ridiculous story about his wife throwing him apples into the concentration camp, and then years later he meets the same woman on a blind date and asks her to marry him on the spot! He seemingly crafted the story after he got into trouble with the IRS - he needed money! He got them "The film rights to the book were purchased for $25 million by Harris Salomon of Atlantic Overseas Pictures" (his wiki page). Oprah then publicised the story and his book ("Angel at the Fence"), he became famous sold movie rights etc, but then it was found that the story could not be true as the fence was not as described. His narrative then had to give way to the greater narrative.

At this point you'd think he'd apologise for lying. But no! Here is a bit of the (attached) transcript:
Interviewer: Why did you do it why did you tell such a big lie to so many people for so long?

Rosenblatt: It wasn't a lie. It was I was my imagination and in my imagination in my mind I believed it. Even now I believe it that she was there and she threw the Apple to me.

Interviewer: How can you say it wasn't a lie it it wasn't true and and you know it's not true?

Rosenblatt: Yes, it's not true but in my imagination it was true.

Interviewer: Rosenblatt says he made the story up to give people hope and to promote understanding about the Holocaust but members of his own family say his real motivation was money.
Just amazing.

You can read more on the wiki page too:
Herman Rosenblat - Wikipedia

Holocaust historian Kenneth Waltzer said that it was disturbing that so few people had noticed and inquired about the obvious holes in his history over a decade.[20] Waltzer and others have said that Rosenblat did not need to embellish his story, which was already powerful enough by itself.[20][27] Waltzer places part of the blame in all those "culture makers" that profited from the diffusion of the story and never doubted even the most implausible parts of it. It appears that the veracity of story was not questioned either by the book publisher or by Oprah Winfrey, and that no fact-checking was done to ensure the authenticity of the memoir prior to endorsing it soundly.

Dates:
Rosenblat told the apple story for the first time in late 1995, and he won Oprah's contest in 1996.
On December 27, 2008, the same day of Rosenblat's confession, Berkley Group cancelled the book publication, saying that it had received "new information" from Rosenblat's agent.
Just after Christmas! I wonder if many people found a copy in their stocking.

And yet, we can also read:
In August 2009, York House Press published a paperback by Penelope Holt titled The Apple: Based on the Herman Rosenblat Holocaust Love Story (ISBN 978-0979195648).[10]
from Angel at the Fence - Wikipedia

And we can also see in the sidebar:
Publication date: Cancelled (originally February 3, 2009)
December 27, 2008 is not February 3, 2009.

Anyway, I think this is a fine example historical fakery. It illustrates how easy it is to fool most people, most of the time. Even today, the wiki seems to play down the sales, the fact there was a follow on book based on this story. But, most importantly though, we also have evidence in the author's own words that express the whole story was a fabrication.

The term seems to be from the Torah indeed, but the captivity story is too debatable to settle. Popular stories tend to spawn more "experts". This subject is full with various theories, all formidable, of why the Israelites were in Egpyt, or were not.
(Does anyone know if the 1700s Levantine Jews were Karaites or were they Talmudists? Slightly off-topic I suppose. Would welcome a DM.)
Not sure why specifically the 1700s.
You probably won't find statistics for it. In a very general way, let's say between 800-1800, Rabbinites and Karaites were equal in power in the Levant. They'd even adopt each other's customs or a community would switch side entirely.
The authorities didn't differ between them, they were just Jews to them, therefore chronicles don't specify such information.

BTW, the Karaites were the first "Zionists" already circa 900 A.D, after the Egyptians captured Israel from Baghdad rule. Thousands of Jews were encouraged to migrate from the Levant.
But via their own claims, Israel wasn't their place of origin, they conquered it from other tribes (again, if I recall correctly). So the claim is based on a historical snapshot.

Nope, the claim is they had to leave Israel for Egypt and returned after. A highly unlikely story. The "cult of Yahweh" shares the same archeological finds with the rest of Canaanite worship and culture. Most likely, the new group had to create a story that separates them from the rest of their culture.
It is as if Germans were to claim the area that was formerly Prussia and invite all ethnic Germans to live there, then set up checkpoints for Poles driving through the region.

No, it isn't the same. If you're refering to how modern Israel was founded, that's just over-simplification. Israel had continous Jewish presence throughout its many rulers, and was even a majority at certain points (600s, 1400s, 1600-1700s).

Germans have Germany, Jews didn't have a country on their territory.
Also, countries have checkpoints on their borders. Palestine is de facto a state with their own government and citizenship.
BTW, there were no checkpoints in Israel up until 2001 (some 70 years) when Islamists started suicide bombing in buses, markets and restaurants. Nobody had to stand at a checkpoint before that.

Anniversary of Bill Cooper's Murder
I grew up on Cooper, got the Pale Horse in the mid 90's and know it by heart. Recently I took a deeper look at the man and this guy has so many red flags I cant call them all out. His program was on a national radio broadcast and his book was published by the Mainstreet outlets and he toured on prestigious university campuses so by default he was an agent. His old handlers at Hour of the Time are still shilling for the National Park Service, the biggest perps out therethat protect fake historical sites and destroy legit relics. All his yt speeches are chopped up by censors so keep that in mind if you go looking for something. I went yt today to update my jacket on him and found some comments he made to a caller that blows his cover in about 3 sentences. His bio says he had a masters from Harvard business, Great. A Harvard Spook, his business was the Truth Guru. Remember the fake beef with alex jones or Bill Hicks or whoever that is? Theyre probs golfing buddies that have each other on speed dial . or the time Rush limbaugh and the White House declared him the most dangerous man in Amrica? What a promo, the WH eliminates potential threats, not boost their ratings. I also found some other cool stuff, you'll just have to take the link. Sorry if I hijacked an ongoing thread but the title indicated it was an open forum and I still havent been granted posting privileges.

I recommend checking out Jacque Vallee's book Revelations where he discusses the many psyops in the UFO community. In short, he views Cooper as not necessarily an explicit asset of the intelligence agencies but as a useful idiot who was getting fed disinformation from sources in the psyop world. I did find an excerpt on this from his book via Reddit:

Reddit - Dive into anything

There was a new bio put out a few years ago, the author was just some cover story spook writer for men's fashion magazine that had a book about Manson and Jim Jones. He was just trying to discredit the movement but said at least WC believed what he said. I read the reviews on Amazon. he wrote about a few divorces cooper never mentioned, that gives the appearance of revelation without really saying anything. Cooper was one of the most intelligent spook's I've come across, he wasn't a useful idiot, whoever said that either doesn't know what he's talking about or is just trying to dismiss him. Cooper knew the material, not just reading a script, he had a masters degree from Harvard Biz and ran a Fine Arts studio in Cali. Any kind of art background is a mark. His Biz was the fake truth guru.
I got mixed emotions about him bc even though he ultimately was a 'Them' I think he was sincere about wanting people to wake up. He wanted people to find out for themselves who he really was and I think he really knowingly gave his life for what he believed in. Cooper is one of a handful I think really died, none of these bitches really die, they get reassigned or retire. The ones that really die get replaced by lookalikes, they're characters not people, meatsuits playing a role that can be filled by anyone.

While Vallee is more skeptic than most in the UFO field, I would be very weary of him as he's definitely part of the Coast to Coast AM UFO network of disinfo shills...he seems like the guy who is brought in as a skeptic to give some validity for C2C by being the guy who doesn't sound as crazy as the Steven Greer's of the group, but he's still part of their clique...I automatically red flag anyone from the SRI (Stanford Research Institute) and remote viewing gang which has also brought as infamous shills such as Edgar Mitchell and Uri Geller with his ridiculous spoon-bending nonsense

Joel v.d. Reijden of ISGP Studies probably has done the best work on academic conspiracy research I've ever seen...don't agree with his historical views as they're rather mainstream and run-of-the-mill but as a journalist he's fantastic...anyway here's a link to his bio on Jacques Vallee and I recommend checking out his work on the Coast to Coast disinfo squad as well as all of his other works especially his 9/11 investigation...

Definitely dig the skate board design!...yea when I first started diving into alternative research I myself like many started with Bill Cooper...not the worst place to start but after a while you can definitely start to put the pieces together that he was controlled opposition...to his credit he did some good academic research on ancient societies such as the Roshinya, Rosicrucians, Freemasons, etc. However Behold a Pale Horse is copy and paste conspiracy porn (although entertaining). I definitely think he was an intelligence operative who went rogue and his 9/11 prediction was what really did him in. He was clearly drunk every day he was on air the months before his death. Still a bit skeptical as to the accuracy of his final shootout with the AZ sheriffs but regardless I agree that he was likely one of the few shills who was killed for biting the hand that feeds them (JFK) unlike most who are reassigned.

You're gonna have to provide some kind of support beyond just making claims. Here is a picture I took on my street after a storm knocked down a huge tree. Are my neighbors photoshopped in? They're just standing around.

Personally, I find this interview to be the most sincere of all he had given and the most likely cause of his permanent removal in such an untimely manner. In less than 10 minutes, he negated all of his previous UFO research and pointed the finger at the likely culprits of the disinformation.

An excerpt from a previous post of mine regarding this:

Okay, here's one of the premier advocates and speakers regarding the UFO phenomena for over 20 years. He had contacts in deep underground bases who gave him leads regarding the alien presence there among other interesting stories, of which he diligently reported for many years trying to bring awareness to the subject.

I'm talking about William Cooper. He was able to do this; talk about the most secretive projects going on for decades while nothing happened to him to interrupt his writing of books, giving presentations and radio show interviews.

Then one day, some police showed up at his house and was accidentally shot and killed. Strangely, this happened very shortly after his last interview (which I already posted in a previous related thread but it disappeared as I can't find it in a search). So even though YT didn't bring it up in a search, I changed the filter to sort by upload date and it appeared in first spot. Try it. Query 'William Cooper last interview'.

So have a listen and check out what it seems he's NOT allowed to talk about.

(I had since updated the links to newly found YT re-posts)

This one is a "can you spot the low probabilities and connections?" story. A "Coincidences-R-Us" story.

A BBC story reports that Salisbury 'visiting research fellow' Brian Edwards discovered both the photographer and the subject of the photograph at bottom right:
_131634156_wiltshirethatcherphotoalbum-openpage-credit-wiltshiremuseumdevizes.jpg
Source: BBC

The image is better known as this , from a Led Zeppelin record:
1700.jpg
Source: The Guardian

The story is being widely reported. The BBC and The Guardian are just two examples.

The crucial pieces of luck were:
  • Edwards' guess that the photographer was a chemist in the Salisbury area
  • that enough of the chemist's handwriting (presumably his signature) was available online to match against this and other photograph captions
  • unspecified research that 'suggested' the subject was a thatcher named Lot Long (or Lot Longyear)
What's odd about the lucky chemist guess, given the other facts available, is that the report goes on to say the photographer - Ernest Farmer - was head of photography at London's Regent Street Polytechnic.

Where you would expect he would have access to plenty of kit for developing film and printing photographs.

We're told, for example, that Farmer was no mere master of technical photography. He was pushing its boundaries.

From The Guardian:
Ernest Farmer, who today is little known but was a leading figure in the development of photography as an art form.

So the amazing luck here is that a man running a photography school in London was identified as the photographer because he took the pictures near Salisbury... near the premises of his chemist father. His chemist father on whom Farmer - this detective story has it - would have been dependent for one or more parts of his photograpy process.

Yet it seems Farmer didn't live near Salisbury and was probably not dependent on local chemists to get his film processed. What a stroke of luck then, that this photographer was found by this 'show me the chemist and I shall show you the photographer' method.

There are other coincidences and long leaps of luck in the report (and hints of connections in other online reports of this story).

Farmer worked at the Regent Street Polytechnic just after it changed its name. That puts him in the institution at the same time it was run by John Samuel Phené:

John_Samuel_Phene.jpg
Not potty; foundational. Source: John Samuel Phene

I'd need to dig through my notes to get Phené's timings but IIRC, Phené was in charge of setting up the polytechnic as a technical college (for want of a generic description) for the working class (the former slave class).

From Brenda Weeden's history of the University of Westminster - 'The Education of the Eye':
The directors included John Phené, the first managing director of the new Institution, and Thomas Twining, a member of the wealthy family of tea merchants, who was an authority on technical education.

How Thomas Twining became an authority on technical education sounds like it might be worth researching.

Like Farmer, Phené was also interested in art.

From Proceedings Of The Society Of Antiquaries Of London 2nd Series Vol.24, 1912:
His views and practice on the subjects of art and architecture were equally remote from the normal

You can get a sense of Phené's taste in art from the photographs in Dr Phene in His Garden:
dr_phene051.png
dr_phene04.png

Though I don't think he was collecting this for the love of it.

Phené crops up in a IHASFEMR context as a person who documented and explained 'serpent mounds' and 'reptile tumuli' (and here) He said they were ancient sacrifice and serpent worship sites. I think his interpretation of them was very judicious. And that in reality he may have been part of the Tennyson group - based around Cheyne Row, Chelsea - involved with:
  • documenting surviving IHASFEMR remnants
  • decisions about which remnants to remove and which to retain
  • decisions about how to re-explain retained remnants(eg Clare Castle, Suffolk. Which may have been judiciously mis-interpreted as a 'serpent mound' - along with some other mottes - when it was something else entirely)
  • helping create His-Story as we understand it
  • selecting which technical knowledge to pass on and which to suppress or to redistribute as cargo cult.
We see a variant of this role in Joseph Beldam, some of whose activities may be interpreted as diluting memories of 'prehistoric' stock farming around east Anglia.

The house shown on the left-hand page of the top image is King John's House. It too played a role in developing art history. Or at least our modern understanding of art history.

From Rethinking Pitt-Rivers - King John's House:
Pitt-Rivers wanted his art collection to show the progression of art through history, 'a series of small and for the most part original pictures, illustrating the history of painting from the earliest times' as he said himself. He took a strict approach, mixing schools and countries' art as appropriate.

The chronological approach followed the German model as put forward by Gustav Waagen in Berlin for the Kaiser-Friedrich Museum in the 1830s and 1840s, and was also the way that the Louvre in Paris was hung (with greater emphasis on chronology than stylistic format). Pitt-Rivers may even have been to see this model on one of his many holidays in Germany,,,

As Yallop remarks:

Waagen's displays ... presented objects within their chronological and social contexts, supported by explanatory labels and catalogues. This allowed visitors to get a sense of how one artist's work related to another's, and how practice had evolved across time and in different places.

In other words, Pitt-Rivers was working with the German Romantic movement to develop our backstory about art history. This description of Pitt-Rivers' art collection augments evidence that the Tennyson group were recreating British history with a romantic twist. A less brutal twist. A much less brutal twist.

The Led Zeppelin stickman story suggests Ernest Farmer was part of these processes.

And that connectable dots are brought to our attention in oblique ways.

As the BBC report comments: it's quite a revelation.

Here's a nice article that gives some depth to modern myth that the ancient Greeks new all about a globe earth

Ptolemy's lost manuscript discovered in book found in medieval abbey

Complete with the old medieval abbey , maybe this and maybe that , spilt tea on the manuscript ( see Philomena Cunk's marvellous take on history). Build a big machine plans too.

Incredible fake nonsense.

People will only recall the title - although it is rubbished in the first sentence.

Seriously I think that this is an attempt to give validity to those endless ancient philosophers quotes whose works no longer exist or are quoted in other peoples work that no longer exists.

Could have posted this in a different thread but this seems it's true home.

I've been around for a long time, but I've never come across the link between Freemasonry and the colour orange before. I would be fascinated if you would be so kind as to provide any sources for this connected. Thanking you in anticipation.
My source is not especially reputable. During the George Floyd psyop, I started watching the videos of a "truther" named Mag Bitter Truth. His accent puts him from somewhere in Africa, but he lives in the USA. He breaks down current events in a very concrete way, going through news videos and pausing them to show Masonic signaling, dummies used for victims, supposedly traumatized crying victims looking down to check off-screen scripts, CGI, etc. As a black truther he focuses on psyops directed against the black community. He's not particularly eloquent, he uses lots of foul language, his perspective is somewhat limited, and half of his "gotchas" are delusional. This makes him easy to dismiss. The thing is, the other half of his gotchas are spot-on and shocking, and can be verified. The guy has an eagle eye. My impression is that he is a somewhat unhinged former (?) ground-level mason who knows all the tricks because he used to (?) practice them. As always, caveat emptor when it comes to sources like this. Anyway, he claims purple and orange are both Freemason colors. He says that the word "orange" breaks down to 33 in gematria and that's why they use it. That may or may not be the reason, but since watching his videos, I see it everywhere. Take for example the following image of Nancy Pelosi performing a creepy Masonic kneeling ritual during the George Floyd theater:

I can't imagine that her choice of head-to-toe orange for this very visible ritual was coincidental. What does it mean? I don't know. But Mag's nuts-and-bolts breakdown of the Floyd psyop was magisterial, by far the best on the net, and for that reason I think he might be worth listening to.

Here's his Bitchute channel. Having satisfied myself over the last couple of years that current events are scripted, I no longer spend too much time digging into them, since I know in advance what I will find. For that reason I haven't watched him in ages. He has thousands of videos, some are garbage and some are great. At the very least, he's amusing.
