These are vinok, or Ukrainian flower crowns, worn by women at their weddings, although there are other purposes, too. The different flowers have different meanings, and the crowns can range from simple to extremely elaborate. They are certainly very beautiful.
Seeing these articles brought to mind the famous laurel leaf crowns of ancient Rome. Now, we can see that crowns made of metal and jewels may have originated as something else entirely...a kind of personal electrical transmission/reception device? So, I wonder if floral crowns are an extension of that, a memory of technological things worn on the head. Possibly not; decorating the body always has been fashionable, and nature provides ample amounts of beautiful things, from flowers and leaves to minerals, with which we can easily do it. Either way, enjoy the pictures! The flower crowns really are skillfully and beautifully constructed.
