It could be a lot of things. We have a whole bunch of cities sharing common traits. Plausible explanations are multiple. It could be this or it could be that. Yet where are the same time photographs where these prominent cities have people? Where are horses, carriages, street vendors?

A plausible explanation would be that no photographer chose to photograph these cities with people. But how realistic would that be?

Well, just to further drive your point home... we DO have photographs of all of these cities teeming with people. But they all suspiciously start to appear right around 1890 or so.

I work in downtown Toronto and its pretty wild seeing those old photos. Every summer I attend the Canadian National Exhibition or CNE where the Princess gates are located.

The folks in this image are quite free of motion blur, to be so, in any lighting condition the shutter needs to be less than half a second, in my considerable experience, otherwise, much more movement (motion blur) is noticable..

The old many seconds, minutes, days of shutter speed stuff really does frustrate me, however to be fair, we all start firmly stuck in the mainstream narrative history of photography of these periods.

In my lengthy ongoing research, there are quite obviously photographic processes and techniques hidden from the mainstream.

I don't know how to put . This buildng looks like is been standing for 150 years even though T.O had only 240 people in 1800. What gives? And where is the other half of it?

I would like to try recreating some of these images. Next time, based on my own photos rather than googly eyes. Here is one of my favourite Toronto oddities. A very nice house at 905 Queen St W. It has always stuck out as uniquely bland. It doesn't fit the surroundings very much. I'm still working on the doctoring technique. This took about 30 minutes using paint.net.

The building on the loft is a modern condo, mixed with ground level commercial. On the right is Olde Toronto 3 story mixed 3 commercial residential which is still proliferate across the city.

Just me or do a lot of the windows appear boarded up, or blinds closed, paper covering? It’s the middle of the day and those aren’t reflections. Some are 100% covered, could be most.
